Our Story
DDAK was started after a farmer (Janice) in regional NSW contacted Coles about sending drought affected children in remote areas some of their Coles Mini Collectables. Coles replied and told her that they ‘weren’t aimed at children’. This conversation was then shared and lots of amazing people stated getting in contact as they wanted to donate their spare collectibles or even gifts/toys to families in drought affected areas.
The drought not only affects adults, but has a major impact on children. Drought affected children watch their parents suffer through the hard times, and miss out on things which other kids often take for granted. This page aims to collect donations in order for us to put together care packages for those children affected by drought, and put a smile on their faces, giving them a little joy in such a hard time.
Our first lot of care packages will be put together for those children attending Broken Hill School Of The Air (SOTA). If our idea spreads & is successful, we will then be branching out to other remote, drought affected areas such as QLD. Currently there are 163 enrolled students at SOTA. This school provides education across thousands of kilometres around towns including Tibooburra, Cobar & Hay.
Not only do we want to provide a care package for the child enrolled, but we will also be ensuring no child in the family misses out, including items for the secondary age siblings.
If you have corporate contacts for products that would be suitable in these care packages please get in contact with an admin via our contact page.
